Over the past few weeks we have had some very competitive games in the ISA competition. It is very important as parents and players, that we remember that this is school sport. Please find following the guidelines for spectators and players set down by the ISA.

2 GUIDELINES FOR PLAYERS

2.1 Once committed to a sport for the season, players must honour that commitment wholeheartedly. This same commitment applies to ISA representation.

2.2 Players are expected to be modest in success and generous in defeat, not showing in either case undue emotion.

2.3 Players are also expected to acknowledge, willingly and openly, good play by either school. Players should not celebrate the opposition’s mistakes.

2.4 Players should be positive in their approach to games and should adhere strictly to the rules/laws and spirit of the game. The referee or umpire’s decision is final, and the Captain of the team is the only one who may ask for clarification of a decision at the appropriate time.

2.5 The ISA is committed to a zero tolerance approach for any abuse towards officials through negative comments or actions.

2.6 Players shall never resort to violent or abusive language or behaviour or engage in unfair or illegal tactics to gain an advantage. Racial vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

2.7 Players should be punctual and adhere to their school’s dress code. The home team - and in particular the Captain - should welcome the visiting team and it’s Captain. At the conclusion of the game acknowledgment and thanks should be given to referees, umpires, officials such as scorers/touch judges and the opposition.

3 GUIDELINES FOR SPECTATORS

3.1 Spectators must remember that this is “kids” school sport, let them have fun. It is not the World Cup.

3.2 Spectators are expected to be positive role models. They must behave respectfully and courteously towards players, coaches, match officials and other spectators.

3.3 Spectators are not to approach or address game officials or any of the opposing players, spectators or staff. If a spectator has a genuine concern, this needs to be presented to their own school official who will determine any action to be taken.

3.4 Unless invited onto a field/court, spectators must never encroach onto the field/court.

3.5 Barracking should be enthusiastic and positive, but not designed to heckle, denigrate or unsettle opponents. For example, barracking during a free throw or a kick at goal and so forth is always bad sportsmanship.

3.6 Sledging and negative comments are totally unacceptable. Good play by either team should be recognised by applause.

3.7 It is never right to express disapproval of a referee or umpire’s decision, irrespective of his/her age. The ISA is committed to a zero tolerance approach for any abuse towards officials through negative comments or actions.

3.8 Vocal support for any team should never encourage violence, rough or illegal play.

3.9 Visitors to the grounds should co-operate fully with any regulations or requests made by the host school, such as car parking, seating, dressing rooms and the placing of spectators. At all times visitors should leave the area tidy and free of rubbish when they leave.

3.10 Alcohol is not to be consumed at ISA fixtures.

ISA Athletics

The ISA Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 13th September. The BMGS is posted on the sports office noticeboard. Please ensure you let me know if you are unavailable for all the events that you have qualified for.

Any students who currently participate in triple jump or hurdle events through Little Athletics can come and see me at the sports office for further information.

Girls' Football

BMGS Junior Girls drew with Chevalier College, 1-1

The Junior girls' team travelled to Chevalier College to face the top ranking team of the competition. It was a tense start, with our bus running half an hour late and only a short warm up. The girls demonstrated early in the game that they are a quality side with excellent tackling and running the ball. However, Chev had a lucky breakthrough only a few minutes into the half. Ash quickly scored the equaliser. The girls should be proud of how they dominated play in the second half, with the ball rarely leaving our attacking half in the last ten minutes of the game. We had several shots on goal, however, were unable to breakthrough their defensive line to score the win. The girls walked away knowing that they had played an excellent game and that they were indeed worthy of their 2nd place on the ladder (if not more!).

BMGS First XI Girls Drew with St Andrew's Cathedral School, 0-0

Last Saturday the First Girls travelled down to the city for what we knew would be a tough match. Our plan was to adapt a 4,4,2 structure to our game and restrict SACS from shooting. We wanted to have a very low scoring game to try and prevent us from moving down the ladder. The first half started with a mixed possession game, as both teams struggled to make any shots on goal. As we were playing more defensively, developing a play towards the goal became a challenge. The girls continued to put up an amazing fight with some pushing too hard and needing to come off before the second half. With the score still being 0-0, we continued to play 4,4,2 as we didn't want to risk any goals being scored. In the second half we displayed a lot more control of the ball and communication with one another as we had more attempts on goal. After a terrifying penalty missed from SACS, they became more and more frustrated as we continued to fight back. We were able to set the tempo for the rest of the game and even become more aggressive in our play. The game ended 0-0 and I couldn’t be more proud of everyone who played! Hopefully we finish in a good position on the ladder after this weekend's game and will either play Oxley or SACS again in the Semi Finals. Congratulations again, Girls!
