Wellbeing & Engagement

Today is a great day to be you!

The Fathering Project - LEGO Masters Event

Coming up at the end of this month - on Sunday August 28th - we have a very special event: Rangeview’s own LEGO Masters Day! Our very own Fathering Project Group has been working very hard behind the scenes to organise a wonderful day for the community. The event will run in the school gym from 1:00pm-4:30pm, and anyone interested in participating will need to register using the QR Code (on the poster) as soon as possible.

Our Parents & Friends Group will be organising some food trucks for the afternoon to support the event and help make a great day of it!

Come along to create some amazing LEGO builds, take part in some competitions, have some lunch - and share a great experience with fellow LEGO-heads! In addition, our very own LEGO expert/champion/celebrity, Mr Ryan Evans, will also be around on the day sharing some tips and ideas!

Please take a look at the poster here for more information. These posters will also slowly start appearing around the school too! This will be a fantastic day, so come and get involved! Can you become Rangeview's LEGO Master?

Huge thank you to everyone involved in the planning, organisation and running of this event for our community.

Safe and Active Schools - WOW

Our Walk or Wheels (WOW) program kicked off last week, and it was wonderful to see so many students brave the cold weather and pound the footpaths to get to school. This program will continue for five more weeks.

Classes will continue to track how many students walk to school each Wednesday; and to ensure all students are supported to participate, if they are unable to walk on Wednesdays, other days can count towards the total and also individual prizes too!

Members of our JSC will continue to present at our weekly assemblies, as well as contribute pieces to our Rangeview News. We now have our trophies - the Golden Shoes - onsite at the school (you can come and check them out in the office!) to act as an additional motivator to all of our students!

As part of the Safe and Active Schools program, Whitehorse City Council has also produced an excellent resource for Rangeview students - a Stride and Ride Route Map. This map displays the most common/frequently used routes to safely arrive at Rangeview. It provides ideas and suggestions of different directions students may come from - and it would be great for our students to utilise this (particularly on Wednesday for the WOW competition!) and maybe arrange meeting spots with some friends or classmates to walk to school together!

The Stride and Ride Route Map is shown here - but all students will receive a hard copy pamphlet containing all the information outlined above! Our thanks to Tara and Mel at the Council for inviting us to be a part of this program and for all their efforts around community engagement.

So many events!

Term 3 is well and truly underway now, as we can tell from all the wonderful events happening - our students are participating in so many rich and diverse experiences, which is a real highlight of primary school. Over the past week, we’ve had our Year 1 and Year 2 students go to the museum and iMax, our Foundation students have had a woodworking incursion, our Senior girls taking part in a Girls Football Gala Day, and our Year 3 and 4 students having fun at Hooptime. Wow!

But wait, there’s more! Today is our Foundation students’ 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL! This is such an exciting event for our youngest students - and one worth celebrating! Our Foundation teachers are making today as special as possible and for our parents and carers of Foundation students - I am positive they will come home this afternoon with some wonderful stories! Congratulations to our Foundation cohort for reaching this milestone.

These extra-curricular (and fun!) events significantly increase engagement levels with school. They are an important part of our Rangeview repertoire each year, and we are so grateful we are able to put these events on again for our students after the interrupted years we’ve been through.

Year 4 Camp

To continue the theme of the ‘extras’ that contribute to wellbeing and engagement - next week we’re off to Year 4 camp!

On Wednesday 10th August, our Year 4 cohort will take off to Camp Weekaway in Benloch. This three day camp will provide our students with some amazing experiences - for many, the first time away from home for an extended period of time. I won’t ruin the surprises by writing any more information here, but we are so excited and can’t wait! You'll hear more about the camp in our next edition of the newsletter.

Thank you so much to Anju Mehta, supported by the Year 4 teaching team, for planning this camp for our students.

Finally…

Cupcake Day!

This Friday, August 5th, is Cupcake Day! Thank you so much to our Parents and Friends Group for organising and running this event. Your child can bring along a gold coin donation in exchange for a cupcake - all classes will get the opportunity across the morning to select a yummy treat!
