The students thoroughly enjoyed making Banana Muffins during our most recent rotations and Mrs O’Keefe was so impressed not only with their improved cooking skills but also their ability to work together and try new things. We were very fortunate to have had all the bananas for our muffins donated to us from Eastern Food Rescue. As was explained to the students, by using bananas that would otherwise have been thrown out we have helped reduce waste and prevented all those bananas going to landfill. Eastern Food Rescue do amazing work in our area and we thank them for the delicious bananas.

Rotation 6 topics:

COOKING: For our next Cooking rotation, Mrs O'Keefe is planning to make pakoras (fried vegetable fritters). Given the students will be using electric frypans we require more parent helpers in the Gallery assisting than usual. If you are able to help on a Tuesday (11:30-1pm) on a day that your child is cooking (even better!), please come along and have some fun! You just need to sign in at the office, wear a mask and we supply the apron. Students know which group they are in so you can work out when it is their turn from the above schedule. We are appreciative of all the support we receive from our families.

GARDENING: Our brand-new garden bed in front of the Level 3 and 3/4 portables that face the oval is now filled with soil thanks to our Level 3 gardening gurus. Not only does it provide new seating for our students to eat their snacks and lunch, it will also provide ingredients for our Cooking program! We look forward to planting and watching the growth of our ‘soon to be’ vegie patch!

SUSTAINABILITY: When we begin Rotation 6 students will be learning about the United Nations 17 SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) and identifying these from a student’s perspective.

SCIENCE: Students will be investigating the topic of ‘Cooling’ during Rotation 6 and we are sure that ice and freezing just may be involved! Look out for updates and photos in future newsletters.

Happy gardening and cooking!
