BASKETBALL SUPERSTARS PICK UP MEDALS!

On the Queen’s Birthday weekend, Year 7 ADP Basketball students Taya Hanan-Datson and Kobe McDonald participated in the prestigious and invite-only basketball tournament, the National Junior Classic.

Only the best sixteen U14 teams from across Australia are invited to compete in the tournament in both the boys and girls sections.

Taya’s U14 Diamond Valley Eagles and Kobe’s U14 Whittlesea Pacers teams were amongst the top 16 teams in the country to be invited to participate in the special annual event. This is a big achievement in itself.

Taya and Kobe’s teams both managed to get through the gruelling pool rounds and advance into the finals.

Taya average a whopping 15 points per game throughout the tournament, drawing lots of attention from the other teams who had to double team her at every opportunity trying to get the ball out of her hands, as much as possible. They still couldn’t stop her! This is a credit to how talented Taya is.

Taya helped her team advance into the Bronze Medal Game, which they won by 20 points, earning Taya and her teammates a BRONZE MEDAL!  The only game her Eagles lost, was the Semi-Final to the eventual winners of the tournament.

Kobe helped lead his team through the pool rounds and they were able to make it all the way to the Grand Final of the tournament where they met an unbelievably talented Nunawading team. Kobe’s Pacers came away with the SILVER MEDAL!

Kobe’s leadership and composure under pressure was exceptional throughout the tournament and his explosiveness and ability to set up his teammates was all class.

In summary, our Year 7 ADP Basketball guns, Kobe & Taya helped their teams to be classified as the second and third best U14 basketball teams in all of Australia!  This is an amazing achievement!

Congratulations Taya and Kobe, we are very proud of your efforts to accomplish such a wonderful feat.
