The Arts
We are starting to explore Portraiture and Identity.
Grade 1/2 students created a visual story about the recent school holidays. We used 'The Willow Pattern' as a touchstone work for this artwork. It was important to add all the different parts of the story so that the illustration was complete.
In Grades 3/4, we are creating self portraits. Students created a mind map about all the important objects, people, activities etc which are important in our lives. Today we started the portrait part of the artwork. Next week, we will be adding illustrations of all the items which make us each unique e.g., sports, talents, interests.
Last week, Grade 5/6 were introduced to portrait photography. We looked at some examples from Annie Leibovitz and Richard Avedon. Students were encouraged to explore capturing different angles, compositions, emotions, settings.
This week, we started creating detailed drawings to further develop our drawing skills, technique and creative thinking when working on portrait drawing.
