Hotham Year 8 Camp  - A report from our  Hotham Student Leaders

Last week on Wednesday year 8 Hotham went on school camp to the city. We stayed at CYC school city camp hotel. The hotel rooms were great, and the food was amazing – especially the pancakes. Within the camp there were camp activity groups, and there were a few choices you could choose from, like sport, fashion, street art and crime. We also went to MSAC and did a Wipeout course, which included going in the wave pool, and a lot of games started in the wave pool as well, like chicken, and a water fight. The Wipeout course also included going on inflatables, there was one hard one, and one slightly easier. The final thing in the session was going on the diving board, we first started off at the 1m then we graduated onto the 3m diving board which was epic.

Last Wednesday we went to the city for our Year 8 Camp and as Grace mentioned we all split off into separate groups for the majority of our camp. There were 4 groups, Street Art, Crime, Fashion and Sport. As I was placed into the fashion group, we visited a variety of shopping centre's such as the Emporium and the DFO We learnt about the history of fashion in Melbourne.

The Sports group competed a three-hour bike ride and played golf. The Street Art group wandered the lanes of Melbourne admiring the Graffiti and diverse types of art and the Crime group explored the historical parts of Melbourne.

Another highlight for many during this camp was visiting ArtVo. This was an incredible experience for many as we were all able to come together to admire the art, have fun with our friends and take many photos.

Apart from the day experiences, we also had some incredible night activities such as rock climbing, visiting the eureka Skydeck and Victoria market.

Overall, the whole camp experience was amazing, many people had a wonderful time and enjoyed staying at CYC.

Stirling Year 8  Camp

In week two of this term, the Year 8 Stirling students attended camp in the city. We had beautiful sunny weather and the students and staff had an excellent time. Here are some of the highlights....

"Some of the experiences that we had included a bike ride around the Yarra River, a swim at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre, an astonishing experience at ArtVo and a tour of the Queen Victoria market. We really enjoyed this camp and was definitely my favourite camp I have ever been on." - Lachlan Hurren, 8S4

"Some of the best moments of camp was the bike ride around the Yarra River to the MCG and many other sporting facilities around Melbourne. We got to go to MSAC where there were many different and fun activities set up for us at the pool. After that we visited Art Vo where we saw some amazing paintings that looked almost real, and we took some incredible photos. Then on one night we got to go rock climbing at Hard Rock which was an amazing experience. On the last day of camp, we then went to the Queen Victorian Market where we were taken on this tour and we got shown all around the market and we also learnt a bit about the history of the market too. The food at the market was delicious!! This camp has been one of my highlights so far this year." - Tilly Govic, 8S3

"I accompanied the Crime group. This theme was a new addition to the camp this year and was very enjoyable. We went on an interesting walking tour, met a police officer and had a tour of part of the station, and saw Ned Kelly's armour. I was so impressed with the behaviour of the Stirling students and really enjoyed the positive interactions we were able to have on camp."
