UPCOMING VSC PRODUCTION - The Drowsy Chaperone

Our school production, The Drowsy Chaperone, is just around the corner!

It is a parody of a 1920's musical that is full of ridiculous dance numbers, silly gimmicks and cliches, and biting commentary about the world of musical theatre.

ANNUAL YEAR 11 SKI TRIP

Firstly, a huge thank you to Laura Gerbing for organising last week’s annual Year 11 ski trip to Mount Buller supported by Laura Churcher and Minhtu Nguyen. Also, a big thank you to Kylie Angland for all the preplanning, attending, running and overseeing the 5 day trip. The snow conditions were good, but visibility was lacking, clearing out on their final day.

The annual ski trip is often mentioned by ex-students as one of the highlights of their six years at Vermont and I would like to thank the Year 11 students for their great behaviour over the week. With many of the students being beginners or intermediates in their skiing and snowboarding ability, staff are always kept very busy.

I would also like to thank all the other staff who were involved in last week’s camp for attending, supporting and supervising the eighty-one students participating. Well done to all on a tiring but great week!

YEAR 8 CAMP CONGRATULATIONS

Over the last three weeks Year 8 students have been involved in the three day City Discovery Camp. With so many regional shopping centres close to Vermont it is surprising how many students have little knowledge of the City of Melbourne.

It is amazing to see how much was packed into this three day program, including various theme based city tours such as sport and art, sightseeing through the heart of the city including many alleyways, lots of public transport use, the Queen Victoria Market tour, swimming at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) and indoor rock climbing.

Thank you to the Year 8 students for their behaviour while representing the college and for the way you actively involved yourselves in the program. Thanks also to all teaching and Education Support staff, Heads of House, Student Managers and Principal class who gave up their time to share this wonderful experience with their students.

Huge thanks go to Sally Nettleship and Sarah Grubelink who in their role as Junior School Program Managers planned, organised and oversaw the logistics of this fantastic program. A large amount of time, effort and attention to detail by Sally and Sarah was required to make the city experience for students and staff so successful. Well done to all involved!

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAY – FRIDAY 12TH AUGUST

The Department of Education and Training (DET) have approved a Professional Practice Day to be held in Term 3 for all staff state-wide. Vermont will hold this day on Friday 12th of August and students will not be required at school. This is a day set aside for teachers to have a common planning day working on, and further developing, curriculum.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DILLON CHAMBERS

Dillon Chambers, who was hosted by a local family while attending as a student from 2012-2015 at Vermont Secondary College is representing Australia in Table Tennis at the Commonwealth Games. Last Friday, playing in the team’s event, Australia had an upset win over Canada, winning 3-2. Dillon, won two singles matches, playing much higher world ranked opponents and leading Australia to Victory.

The Table Tennis Australia daily wrap up, described the days play following.

After a valiant effort in a very tight first match loss against Malaysia, the Men's Team went on to record arguably its best win in the past eight years against Canada after trailing 2-1. Debutant's Finn Luu and Dillon Chambers shone against Canada with career best wins. Chambers was the star of the show against Canada, recording a victory over Eugene Wang and winning the deciding match against Jeremy Hazin. "It is the best moment of my career so far," Chambers said. Obviously it is two good wins for me, I would normally go in second favourite against these guys, with the pressure on top and the team around me it was even more sweet.

Dillon is a full-time professional Table Tennis Player, based in Germany, he wasn't selected in the first-round loss, and is currently unbeaten in 3 matches so far.

Vermont congratulates Dillon on a great sporting achievement, well done! For more information go to -
