Springers in Action

What's been on at the Springs

Yr 3 & 4 Hoop Time Champions

We had an amazing day at the Year 3 & 4 Hoop Time on Thursday at the Cardinia Life Basketball stadium.

We took 6 mixed teams of Year 3 & 4 students to the competition.

All teams participated with fantastic Springers spirit, showing great sportsmanship, fair play, and resilience.

Our most successful team was our Future Stars 1 - the Pakenham Springs Saints team who won 5 out of their 6 games on the day and became tournament champions in the end.

1st game v Beaconsfield; lost 3-7

2nd game v Pak Lakeside; won 28-6

3rd game v St Brigid's; won 30-5

4th game v Pak Con; won 34-2

Semi-Final vs St Brigid's; won 32-2

Grand Final vs Beaconsfield; won 18-5

What an amazing effort from Aston, Dustin, Brodey H, Zac H, Akuch, Ruby B, and Willow!!

It's now off to the Regional Hoop Time tournament in October

Girls AFL Competition

We would like to extend our congratulations to our Year 5 & 6 Girls AFL team who competed in the Pakenham district Girls AFL gala day held at Beaconhills in July.

It is the very first time the Springs has had a girls' AFL team in the competition and they did not shy away from the challenge.  In fact, they showed amazing tenacity and resilience to pull off a couple of wins and make it to the semi-final.

The girls had only a couple of training sessions in the gym (not even on the oval) to prepare but didn't let that stop them when they hit the oval.

The first game was against Pakenham Con and it was a close one but we were able to hold them off to win 34-22.  This win built our confidence a little and we were able to win 46 to zero against Lakeside.  The third game was a wake-up call, going down to Chairo who had a very strong team but we still made the semi-final where we unfortunately lost, 9-34.

Leading goal kickers were Nyander, Dylan, McKenzie, Leila, Kayla and Charlotte but it was a team effort and we look forward to developing this further in the years to come.

100 Days of Prep

This week marked a very special milestone in Prep with their first 100 days of school reached.  Please enjoy the photos below.

Robocup

Robocup is a competition for robotics, it has 3 divisions,

1: Soccer - students code robots to chase after an Infrared ball to get it into a goal,

2: OnStage - students use robots to tell a story or performance and

3: Rescue - robots are coded to 'rescue' a tin from an 'oil spill' along a particular course.

On Friday 29th July, we entered 3 teams,  2 x soccer, and our first time entering the Onstage division.  Our theme was our own adapted version of the 3 little pigs.  Our students designed, created and coded the robots to tell their story.

Our soccer teams were determined during 5/6 electives and the Onstage team was a mixture of STEM leaders and high-achieving maths students.

We are so proud of the following teams for the way they represented our school at this event.  Our Soccer 1 team also came away with the Gold!

Our teams:

Soccer 1 - Cooper (S34), Manav and Vivaan (S32)

Soccer 2 - Japkirat (S38), David and James (S31)

Onstage - Amelia, Aston (M41), Shahbaz (M42), Prabhnoor (S39)
