A Message from Keir & Emma

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

Library

It’s been such a highlight to see how excited our students have been participating in their library sessions this term. A lot of work has gone into getting our wonderful new library up and running. With the help of a team of teachers and volunteers, particularly Elena Ford, we have reorganised our collection, up-dated our computer system and set up the space so that it is warm and inviting for our students. We have also purchased lots of new books, which we are in the process of being catalogued. If you are wondering when your child’s library session is, please contact their classroom teacher. In addition to this, if you are interested in volunteering in the library, please contact Emma (emma.mallia@education.vic.gov.au).

Annual Implementation Plan (AIP)

Each year we are required to conduct a mid-year review of our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). Last week our school leaders completed this and shared the results with our school’s Education Committee as well as Tony Privitelli, our school’s Senior Education Improvement Leader. This was a great opportunity for us to pause, reflect and celebrate our progress towards achieving both our learning and wellbeing goals. Some highlights of the work we have done so far include the embedding of Professional Learning Communities and the restructuring of our student leadership teams so that they are more inclusive and authentic. Here at BNWPS, our teachers work hard at improving their practice, so it is great for them to receive such positive recognition of all their hard work.

100 Days of Foundation

Today our Foundation students are celebrating a very important milestone; their 100th day of school! This is a huge achievement for everybody including their teachers, their parents and caregivers and of course, the students themselves. As part of their celebrations, they will be dressing-up. Look out for lots of little 100 year old people in the yard.

Supervision Reminders

Just a reminder that staff members are on yard duty from 8.45 in the morning, and until 3.45 in the afternoon. This means that outside of these hours, the yard is unsupervised. We ask that students arrive at school as close to, or after 8.45 as possible. If students are arriving earlier, we ask that a parent or guardian wait with them until the yard duty teacher arrives.

In addition, another gentle reminder that the Culloden St traffic can get very busy and unpredictable after school. If you are picking up your child from Culloden St in the afternoon, we encourage you to meet your child on the school side of the street, and then safely cross with them if you need to get onto the other side.

Middles Fundraiser

As part of their Inquiry learning, our middle years students are investigating and designing gardens that will increase the biodiversity of our school yard. They have researched the types of plants that attract indignenous and native animals and are now ready to start preparing their plots. On Tuesday, they will be running a treat stall at lunchtime to raise money to buy the plants they need. There will be lots of yummy homemade goods available to purchase. Please support the middle years students by sending your child to school with a small amount of money that they can use at the stall.

Student Led Conferences

As a very important component of our assessment and feedback cycle across the year, we will again be having Student Led Conferences on Thursday 11th August. This is a great opportunity for students, teachers and parents or carers to talk about the progress our  students have made in the first half of the year, and to collaboratively set goals for the term and semester ahead. Families will receive notification through Sentral when the appointment times are open for booking. Student led conferences will take place between 11am and 7pm. Students are not required to attend school on this day, but are required to attend and participate in the conference.  OSHC will be available for families who require the service, and students enrolled in OSHC will be able to attend their conference from there.

Community Forums

On Tuesday evening, some of our Junior school and Foundation teachers presented an informative online session about Numeracy in the F-2 years at BNWPS. We would like to thank all of the community members who attended this virtual event. Just like with all of our forums, the recording of the Numeracy forum is now available for viewing on Sentral using the following link;

Coming up later this term. We have a forum that will focus on Wellbeing, and student voice and agency. Please keep an eye out on Sentral and in the newsletter for any more information.
