Grade 1/2

Capacity:

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity, which is the measure of how much a container can hold. We have been measuring and comparing containers using informal units. We have also learnt about formal units, millilitres (ml) and litres (L).

Place Value:

Grade ones have been practising their understanding of 2 digit numbers. They had so much fun making a number of the day poster which included different strategies such as ten frames, MAB, tally marks, number lines, pictures and lots more!

RACV Incursion:

On Tuesday, our prep, grade one and grade two students had an RACV Incursion. They learnt about hazards that can be found in the kitchen and what to do to reduce the dangers. They also learnt about the different road safety signs and how to be safe when cycling, crossing the road and travelling as a passenger in a car. Students learnt that they need to "Stop, Look, Listen and Think" and hold hands when crossing the road. The presenter, Anne showed students how to safely and correctly wear a bike helmet and reminded them of the importance of wearing shoes and socks as well as a bright colour when on a bike. Students listened to how a seat belt and airbag protects them. We also got to measure our heights to check whether we are 145cm tall, which is the recommended height to be able to sit in the front seat. The incursion taught us how to make safe choices to keep ourselves and others safe.

Here are some quotes from 1O:

"I now know to keep the kitchen safe for my little sister." (Oliver)

"I really liked learning about safety because I didn't know the airbag came out really quickly!" (Isla)

"Sometimes when a car stops really quickly, the airbag comes out like the speed of light." (Angus & Alex)

"I didn't know that little kids couldn't sit in the front seat because of the air bag." (Scarlett & Keira)
