Basketball try outs! Check out these action shots of us learning to play basketball!
Inquiry:
We have been talking about safety in inquiry and had a real life train driver come in to our class and speak to us about road and train safety! His name was John, he brought in a whole lot of safety gear for us to look at and touch such as: his Fluro vest, glow in the dark gloves, steel capped boots, his walkie talkie, safety sunglasses, train torch with green and red light and his very important train keys!
In Literacy this week:
This week we have been focusing on the letter 'Ii' - as in ice cream and 'Yy' - as in yellow! We had fun using whiteboards to practise writing 'i' words and creating yaks out of Y's. We also talked about using capital letters for names and places with our 'i' and 'y' words.
Our focus book this week is: Wombat stew - Here are some pictures of how we would make our own wombat stew!
Our focus has been summarising stories and retelling the main ideas. For example: the beginning, the middle and the end of a story. We have also been practising writing our lower case and upper case letters correctly on the line and focussing on using full stops in the correct place by using coloured pencil for our full stops so we can see the end of each sentence.
In Maths this week:
We began with revising how to write our numbers correctly (the correct way) and correctly sequencing the days of the week. We completed our SLD piece on sequencing, and have begun to talk about what subtraction is (takeaway, minus, less). This is a big topic, there is a lot to learn. We used unifix to show how we takeaway a part from a whole (part-part-whole) and we sang 5 little speckled frogs together as a class.
** Please bring your blue reader folder on a Monday (we endeavour to change our readers on a Monday and also alternate each week between testing magic words OR running records).
