Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

COVID-19 continues to have an impact on our school and greater community in 2021. The recent scare in Moree has reinforced our need to ensure St Philomena's continues to adhere to its high standards of safe hygiene practices, which are a priority in everyday school life.  I would like to thank our school community for their support and patience over the past fortnight as we navigated this local threat within our community.

As a result of the potential for possible COVID-19 cases in Moree, St Philomena's was required to postpone a number of events to ensure the safety of our staff, students and parents.  These events include our Kindergarten Information Sessions, Youth Mass (including pizza and movie night)  and our NAIDOC Week celebrations.  New dates for these events will be communicated to our school community over the coming weeks for Term 3.

With the conclusion of Term 2 fast approaching, final preparations are being made regarding Semester 1 Student Reports.  As communicated, student reports will be available via the Compass Parent Portal from 3pm on Friday 25th June.  Along with viewing our child's report, you will also be able to schedule an appointment to see your child's leader of learning to discuss their academic progress throughout Semester 1.  As communicated, Parent & Teacher Conferences have been scheduled for:

  • Primary K-6: Week 1, Wednesday 14th July
  • Secondary 7-10: Week 2, Wednesday 21st July

Improvements have been made to our student reporting format for Semester 1 2021, as a result of feedback from our parent community last year, through the inclusion of an Academic and Pastoral Care (Application to Learning) comment provided by their Class Leader of Learning (Primary K-6) or their Pastoral Academic Care Leader (Secondary).

With a week of learning still to go before Term 2 concludes, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, students and parents for an incredible term and wish all of our families a safe and enjoyable term break.  Although impacted by flood and COVID-19, St Philomena's continues to grow and prosper in both student population and academic success.

God bless,

Jamie McDowall
