MARK ROBERTSON

Principal

I am very proud of our staff and students for the way in which we have seamlessly transitioned from ‘on campus’ to remote learning. I wish to give credit to our Leadership Team for the purposeful planning, both last year and this year for the possibility of future lockdowns. Our current lockdown reflects a serious situation pertaining to the capacity of COVID-19 to spread quickly and indiscriminately.

I have full confidence in the Melbourne community and indeed our own school community, given our resilience in spending 112 consecutive days in lockdown last year. Whilst we hope and pray that the current outbreak is managed effectively to reduce this lockdown period, we must be prepared to maintain our remote learning model to ensure our students’ learning journey is not disrupted. In doing so, we must also ensure we maintain a positive mindset during this uncertain period. Our School staff are fully aware of the challenges within the remote learning sphere and are prioritising the welfare of all of our students from ELC to Year 12. Our support structure includes our School Counsellor, Chaplain, Year Level Coordinators and pastoral staff.

All parents should be aware that the Oakleigh Grammar Remote Learning Model effectively follows the normal timetable using the medium of Microsoft Teams. On campus operations continue to be restricted to children of ‘authorised workers’ and those deemed to be vulnerable. Authorised students on campus study online under supervision whilst observing current COVID-19 protocols. They will also follow the normal timetable using Microsoft Teams as the medium of instruction, with their regular teacher.

Our ELC continues to operate as normal.

Our School reception is available for contact by telephone only, between the hours of 8am to 4pm on 9569 6128, and teaching staff are available via email contact.

As in previous periods of remote learning, our students should be encouraged to maintain a schedule that replicates the routines and rhythms of the school day. It is important to include resting and exercise at recess and lunch times, and to have a break after school.

Everyone at Oakleigh Grammar very much hopes the timeframe of this lockdown period is as short as possible. We hope that we can all come together as an active school community once again, embracing all that our School has to offer on campus.
