Tom, Tones and I

Year 8 student Tom Marchant (8 Millward) talks about his recent experience of featuring in a music film clip with pop music superstar of the moment, Tones and I.

“I was looking online to see how I could get noticed because I want to be an actor. I found a website that invites people to sign up for future opportunities. Basically, it’s an online talent service.

“The producers of the clip, called Visible Studios, saw my online photo, and they liked the look of me, so they sent me a text inviting me to audition, to which I said, “Yeah sure”. They asked me to send in a clip of myself looking frightened, so I sent in footage of myself saying “I'm scared, I wanna go home!”

“In less than 48 hours, they texted again to tell me I had the gig.

“I had a couple of weeks to prepare myself. I knew the clip was going to be with Tones and I, so it was a big jump for me. Previously, I’ve only been in a short movie called “Cactus and the mine”.

“So a couple of weeks later, we went to the Palais Theatre in St Kilda where day one of filming was. The foyer was transformed into a haunted house.

“There were 70 extras and dancers, so the set was very busy.

“I was very nervous. I walked in and did not know where to go, and I came face to face with one of the monsters and screamed!

“Toni Watson, who is the lead singer of Tones and I, was really nice. All the scenes where she had to grab us, she always checked we were OK first.

“The clip took three days of filming and I was involved in two days of the filming.

“The scenes in the woods are filmed in Gembrook and I got home at 3 am from that day of filming. None of it was green-screened. It was all filmed in the actual woods. They had a fog machine and lights everywhere.

“In the clip, I am playing Kurt, Toni Watson’s childhood best friend.

“Everyone asks how much I got paid to do the clip. Let’s just say, I will be spending about half of the money on all my Lamborgini’s and saving the other half. ”

Note: film clip may not be suitable for younger children. Tom is a lovely boy, but in this clip, he is barely recogniseable and some scenes are seriously scary!
