Hume Region Athletics - Albury

Sixteen of our athletes took part in the Hume Region Athletics Carnival in Albury last Thursday October 6th, having won their way through the corresponding Upper Hume event in September.

With competitors from far as Seymour, Cobram, and Mansfield, the competition was significantly tougher, and although the rain didn’t hit, there was an icy wind to contend with.

Jack Boulton, having set the Upper Hume record in the 200m in September, was favourite again, and held off a very strong runner from Wodonga by a couple of metres to collect our first Gold for the day.

As the Under 15 Australian record holder in the 400m, Jack was favourite again and won by almost 50m in a canter to collect his 2nd Gold in a row.

Then it came to the final event of the day, the U20 Boys 4 x 100m Relay, featuring Year 12s Tom Solimo, Jack Boulton, Vincent Chisholm and Jarrod Bell. In an epic tussle, Jarrod took the baton from Vincent at the final change just in front, had a challenger breathing down his neck down the entire final straight, and as the Wang High contingent in the grandstand roared at the top of their lungs, held him off by about a metre to collect the Gold.

The four boys will now compete in the upcoming Victorian Track & Field State Championships next Monday 17th October.

Special mention to Year 9 all-rounder Tom Ford, who won 3 medals, including Silver in Discus and Bronze in Long Jump, and a Bronze as part of the U15 Boys 4x100 Relay.

Other students to medal on the day included:

James Chisholm – Silver, Discus (U12/13 Boys)

Imogen Robinson – Bronze, Shot Put (U15 Girls)

Lachlan Suffield, Jye Laxton, Cope Swinburne - Bronze, 4x100 Relay (U15 Boys)

Lachlan Barbour – Silver, Discus (U16 Boys)
