Health and Human Development

During Unit 4 Outcome 2 Health and Human Development students looked at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and the effectiveness of Global Aid programs. Many aid programs were evaluated in terms of their ability to improve both health and wellbeing and human development.

Water Aid is an International NGO that aims to improve access to clean water, toilets and good hygiene worldwide. In particular, Water Aid helps to address SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. On average one child dies every 2 minutes worldwide due to diarrheal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation (www.wateraid.org.au).

The photos show Year 12 HHD students completing an activity that required them to carry a heavy bucket of water over a short distance without spilling it. This was to help put into perspective the situation many young women and girls often find themselves in low-income countries where they are required to trek long distances (on average 6kms) to collect clean water for their families often at the expense of an education and their health.
