Facilities
As you are most likely aware, there has been lots of facilities work around OGPS of late.
Some of these works include –
TREES As per our annual tree assessment recommendations, extensive work was conducted on ‘high risk’ trees during the school holidays. There will be further work completed in conjunction with Powercor, as some of the trees requiring work are near power lines. Our school community safety is of paramount importance.
ISF PLAYGROUND Although many of you have seen materials arrive, production has been slow due to difficulty obtaining materials. BDH have secured the contract to install the playground and are keeping in regular contact with us regarding developments.
SHADE SAILS Footings and posts have been installed at the large playground (this sail was destroyed during the storm last year) and at the back of the library (this was part of a grant). Sails are expected to go up very soon.
DRAINS and ABP (accessible building program) Extensive drainage works will be conducted in conjunction with the APB. The drainage works will hopefully alleviate the ongoing water problems at OGPS and the ABP will be the next stage of building modifications for students with disabilities.
STEM ROOM The new carpet looks amazing and Mr K-T and his students think it looks great!
SPOUTS AND GUTTERS Mr Kev (maintenance person) has been cleaning gutters and spouts, in preparation for the rain.
OVAL Mick Malecki (maintenance person) has put an enormous amount of work into the school oval - it has been aerated, fertilized and mowed with ongoing watering. The oval is looking fantastic and most importantly, the children love it!
FIRE SERVICES This project has been delayed. The VSBA will notify us when works can resume.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Our six monthly inspections have been completed.
GABION WALLS DET have secured cable ties on the gabion walls – to reduce the movement of the steel coils. We have been advised that no further works will take place in regard to the gabion walls.
GEELONG PEST CONTROL OGPS has scheduled pest and rodent inspections. These inspections are ongoing.
AIR PURIFIERS There are many air purifiers throughout OGPS (every classroom has one). All air purifiers were cleaned during the holidays, as required by DET.
CLEANING COMPANY Logical Property Services commenced a contract with OGPS at the beginning of Term 4. We welcome LPS to our school.
PYRAMID PLAY STRUCTURE UPDATE
The Ocean Grove Primary School Council has made the decision (in accordance with DET guidelines) regarding the redeployment of funds raised for the pyramid play structure. The monies raised will be used for the development of the kitchen garden area (at the front of the SLC building). Any remaining funds will be directed towards the creation of outdoor learning spaces. The development of these areas will provide our students with improved facilities and engaging outdoor learning opportunities.
If you would like to join the fabulous facilities sub-committee, please contact Kristy Hannan-Cuthbertson (Assistant Principal)
School Crossing Supervisor
Congratulations to Ross Pope who has been nominated for the School Crossing Supervisor of the Year. Ross is one of the School Crossing Supervisors that supports the children and families on Presidents Ave Ocean Grove.

School Uniform Update
Dear Families,
Looking Smart has sold the school uniform part of their business to DCS Uniforms. There will no longer be a shop front as such, school uniforms can be purchased online only.
The delivery day of uniforms to school will be each Thursday. Uniforms can be posted straight home, but there will be a $10 postage fee.
When placing an order please make sure you add your child's name and grade.
This is the link to the store - https://www.dcsuniforms.com.au/collections/ocean-grove-primary-school
For any exchanges or queries parents please call 9398 2222 or email sales@dcsuniforms.com.au alternatively parents can call the manager on 0425 796 053. Please do not contact the school office for uniform queries.
The sizing is the same as you would have used at Looking Smart as the stock has been transferred over to DCS Uniforms. We have a rack located in the staffroom with some sample sizes if you need to try anything on before ordering.
As hats are required for term 1 and 4, please order early so they can be delivered on Thursdays.
We value your feedback via email to the school as we transition to the new supplier.

Nude Food at OGPS
‘Nude Food’ is a popular term in schools. But what exactly is ‘Nude Food’?
Food is food without excess packaging. It is food that comes to school without disposable packaging such as extra plastic bags, paper bags, wrappings or cling wraps.
At OGPS we encourage student to package snacks and lunches in durable, reusable containers. They are a great way to bring food and keep it fresh, promote healthy eating, provide long term cost savings and environmental benefits with reduced packing and waste.
Tips for Nude Food:
Avoid using cling-wrap, zip-lock or plastic bags, foil, single use cutlery or pre-packaged foods.
- Involve children in packing/making their own lunch and snacks – they’re more likely to eat it.If mornings are busy, pack food the night before and keep it in the fridge.
- Ask children what they like to eat at school and how much time they have to eat (it may be different and much less than at home).
- Try making your own snacks.
- Many snack items can be bought in bulk and decanted into smaller reusable containers. This can reduce packaging and save money.
