Year Five/Six News

Those that weren't at camp...

While the past two weeks have been jam packed with camp, we have still had students at school busy with their learning. Here's a re-cap of what's been covered:

In Reading, we have been analysing the way that different texts are written for different purposes and the strategies authors use to convey their message. We have been studying political apologies, statements and speeches. Linking with our Integrated unit on Government.

In Writing, we have been continuing the Writer's Process. Many students are progressing well in their writing, preparing for Writer's Festival next week. With students writing for a range of purposes and publishing their writing in so many different ways - it is ramping up to be an exciting showcase of 5/6 writing.

In Maths, students have been looking into geometric reasoning, aka angles. They have identified, estimated, classified and explained acute, right, straight, obtuse, reflex and revolution angles through a number of investigations. Students have also learned how to measure and create angles with a protractor.

In Integrated Studies, we have continued our learning about the Australian Government. We have learned that the Parliament is a made of up the House of Representatives and Senators and that their jobs are really tough! Did you know that a day in parliament involves sitting and listening for 11 hours!!!!

Next week is another huge week with some important things happening, including Melbourne Cup on Tuesday!
