An update on the School Refurbishment and building program
After a period of delays due to weather in the Foundation works, the construction of the new Arts and Food building is about step as we enjoy better weather. In order to minimise disruption to our teaching and learning program, the works for our new building will be staggered.
Firstly, this week we hand over to the builders the Art classrooms in the B block for refurbshment work. the builders will hand back to us for the first day of classes in 2023 three new visual Art classrooms, the Arts staffroom and new toilets for student and staff use. the second stage of this building will see the remianing Food Technology, Media, VCD and Textiles learning spaces handed to the school with an expected completion date of Term 2 2023.
The design work for Stage 2- Science and Technolgy is underway and the plans are looking very exciting! While we cannot yet release those plans, we can share that a new Science building and a significant increase in undercover outdoor space is a feature of the new building. This is something that staff, students and families gave us overwhelming feedback on we created our School Master plan.
While it is always difficult to comment on timeframes in the construction industry, the plan is to begin construction as soon as the Stage 1 buildings are handed over to the school.
The recent wet weather has also caused delays in the completion of the refurbished outdoor basketball and futsal courts. While the surface and rings are installed, we are awaiting fine and warm weather for the installation of the acrylic finish and lines for the courts. In the meanwhile, students have access to use the courts at recess and lunch time.
The school has also installed more outdoor seating for student use. This includes seating purchased with the proceeds of the Fundraising Committee's chocolate and lolly sales. This seating continues to be installed around the school to provide spaces for students to enjoy out of the weather.
