Visual Arts

Throughout the year, the preschool children have daily opportunities to engage in visual art activities using a range of mediums and tools. For some children this is their favourite thing to do at preschool and they spend large amounts of time creating. Visual arts help children to develop their physical, social, emotional, language, cognitive, literacy, and numeracy skills.

When the children are interacting in visual art they develop the ability to:

  • Manipulate equipment and manage tools with increasing competence and skill
  • Use the creative arts such as drawing, painting and sculpture to express ideas and make meaning
  • Explore ideas and theories using imagination, creativity and play. Interact with others to explore ideas, concepts and challenge thinking
  • Begin to use images of letters and words to convey meaning
  • Engage in increasingly complex sensory motor skills
  • Explore the purpose and function of a range of tools, media, sounds and graphics
  • Use language and representations from art to share and project meaning
  • Use information and communication technologies as tools for designing, drawing, editing, reflecting and composing. (EYLF)
