Thank you so much for supporting our Book Wishlist! Books are coming in and it feels like xmas!

We have also received some lovely letters of support from families afar who have gifted a book to our library as a way to connect to our school and encourage reading.  I place a thank you message sticker in each book donated with the donors special message (or they can remain anonymous).

Writers Festival

Thank you for having us Mount Beauty Writers Festival!

Author Carly Nugent showed us the value of being persistent in our writing, how to draw on your own experiences and gave us some important tips that she wished she had known when she was at school - like "it's normal for writing to feel hard" and "good writers can write badly". We learnt how to do a "vomit-drop write" (yes....really....and no children were harmed in this exercise....), a brainstorm write and a questioning of character.

Next up we had Author Amelia Mellor on stage, whose book "The Grandest Bookshop in the world" sold 65,000 copies and whose latest novel "The Bookseller's apprentice" just dropped 2 weeks ago. Mellor, who has wanted to be a writer since she was three years old, showed us how to use facts to get ideas for writing, to "steal ideas from real life", such as she did by reading old newspapers from the 1800's in researching her books.

Lastly, best-selling thriller author James Phelan strolled onto the stage and had his audience - from Year 5 to year 10 - sitting on the edges of their seats, enthralled by his childhood stories, book covers, plot twists, character assassinations, book trailers and laughing very hard at his constant jokes! Thank you!
