Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome to the 2021 school year, the year of hope and some form of normality.
As we observe and reflect on the state of other countries around the world, we hopefully appreciate the way our nation has dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic and where we find ourselves now.
We pray for all those that have been affected and lost loved ones.
Restrictions in schools have eased, however, we cannot become complacent. We remind our students to wear masks while on public transport and when they visit shopping centres. At school, masks are optional for staff members and students. Visitors to the College are required to check in using the Nazareth College QV code.
In line with the Minister for Health comments, if parents are scheduled to be onsite for more than fifteen (15) minutes and cannot socially distance, it is required for a mask to be worn as a preventative measure. Obviously, with the upcoming Information Evenings, together with VCE/VCAL/VET Evenings, these measures will need to be adhered to.
A reminder to continue washing hands, sanitising, and cleaning surfaces. If you are unwell with COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home and get tested.
I welcome our new parents and new students to Nazareth College. Last week, 142 new Year 7 students commenced at the College, together with a small number of new students in Years 8-12.
It was pleasing to be able to welcome so many families that attended the College during school drop off. Nazareth is renowned as a welcoming Community and one where you are known, so I urge all families to always feel comfortable attending the College and participating in school events.
This year we have several new staff members that have joined Nazareth College. A profile page has been set up to allow each of them to introduce themselves and share some information about themselves over the next few editions.
This year's theme centres around Jesus of Nazareth, helping us grow in Faith, Wisdom and Knowledge.
Engaging the Mind and Spirit
Creating and Nurturing Growth
‘…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ’ 2 Peter 3:18
We hope that our learning Community centres on the growth of the whole person. We want our students to be good active citizens that care for all and reflect on the characteristic of Jesus and the family of Nazareth, embedding these values in their personal growth.
In concluding, I would like to congratulate last year’s Year 12 cohort on their results and pathways. It is incredibly pleasing to hear that all our 2020 Year 12 students have been accepted into courses, apprenticeships, or the workplace.
I congratulate:
- The College Dux Julia Proctor with an ATAR of 98.95;
- VCAL Student of the Year Sebastian Venegas;
- Emily Lalor for her perfect score of 50 in Applied Computing Data Analytics.
It was wonderful to see that 9.7% of students received an ATAR of 90 plus, while 9.1% of our students received a Study Score of 40 plus.
David Narvaez, from Year 12 VET Music, has been acknowledged for his musical ability and has been invited to audition for Top Class and play a piece in the ‘Season of Excellence’ concert.
It is evident that our students, given the opportunity, have the ability to excel. I encourage all to be inspired by these young people and their quest to perform at their best.
God Bless
Mr Sam Cosentino
