Term 4 Week 11Snapshot

Welcome to Week 11, Term 4

It has been a year like no other and one we will all never forget. The Grade 4 Team are incredibly proud of the resilience all the students have shown during such a long period of home learning. It has been great to reconnect with the students this term and enjoy learning together. We thank you all for your support this year and hope you enjoy a restful break over the holiday period. For our final snapshot, the teachers asked their students to reflect on the year and share with you a few of their highlights.

4A End of Year Reflection

This year 4A is proud of all their hard work. We feel that we have accomplished a lot in all areas, including specialist classes! We are proud of making it through the whole year and home learning, even when it was hard to know what to do. We learnt a lot of technology skills and became more independent learners. We were happy to get to come back to school and see our friends!

This year we have done an excellent job at writing. We are really proud of our poems because we worked hard on them, and we kept on improving them. We also wrote information texts about moments in history and we spent a lot of time revising and editing them, to make sure they made sense. We are proud of our personal narratives and learnt how to write the important parts of the story, and we edited our work to make sure it was interesting.

In Mathematics we are proud of our problem solving. We had to investigate challenges like painting towers and the four fours, and everybody tried really hard. Everybody thought carefully about the pattern and tried hard to find the rule so they could solve problems faster next time.

In Unit of Inquiry we have learnt a lot this year. We are really proud of our roller coasters we have been building and all the other challenges we have completed. We have been good at reflecting on our learning and thinking about what we could do better next time. Make sure you check out the photos of our roller coasters!

In art we learnt new sewing skills and made some really cool mascots!

We've enjoyed this year and the new experiences we've had with home learning. We were disappointed we didn't spend as much time with our teachers and class as normal, but we are still looking forward to Grade 5!

4B End of Year Reflection

Although it was a very tough year we had a great year and really enjoyed it. We got to know each other so well and all became great friends. Home learning was tough but we became resilient and really efficient at it. Coming back to school though was just awesome and we all enjoyed seeing each other again. Some of our highlights during the year were:-

  • making roller coasters
  • making paper planes
  • making parachutes
  • conducting science experiments
  • having choice boards
  • learning hard maths
  • writing funny poems

We really enjoyed enquiring into environmental issues and taking action to help solve them. We loved having a guest speaker who explained our if we drove less we could save massive forests.

We look forward to grade 5 and feel completely ready.

4C's Reflection

4D's Reflection

The past two weeks have been really busy with constructing rollercoasters. We were able to work in groups and brainstormed some of our ideas. We used the design cycle to ensure that we were using our engineering skills effectively. We included things like a funnel, loop-de-loop, turns, hills or tunnels. We reflected on communicating, thinking and self-management skills as well as used an application called Poplet to reflect on the process of our design each day.

We have had a focus on explanation texts and have been using the writing cycle. We have used multiple research sources and included the relevant information in our explanation texts. In the explanation texts we have had a focus on the introduction, the main sub topics and the conclusion. WE have used diagrams that included labels and showed the different parts of the rollercoasters.

In Mathematics we have been putting our science experiment results into graphs. We have also had a focus on 24hour time as well as digital and analogue clocks.

In 4D we have enjoyed our science experiments the most that had a focus on gravity, friction and air-resistance.

4E's Rollercoaster Reflection

We really enjoyed finishing the year with our inquiry into forces. We created rollercoasters to learn about gravity, friction and force. It was a lot of fun!

When we first started making our roller coasters we didn't know much about the physics behind rollercoasters so we had to do a lot of research. We went into groups of 4 to design and make the. We had to show our best collaboration skills and most importantly we had to work as a team.

We wanted to use as much recyclable materials as possible. For example cardboard, paper, tape and string.

Once we built our rollercoaster we used a marble to test it out! We had some challenges throughout the design process but we still showed persistence and listened to each other's ideas.
