Reconnecting and building on relationships

Jo Laughlin, ELC Teacher

'I missed you', 'I am so happy' and 'It’s good to be back' are some of the comments we've heard from the children upon our return to the Centre.

Over the past few weeks, it has been wonderful to see the children reconnecting with their peers; building on existing relationships and exploring new ones; discovering new interests; and generally enjoying each other’s company, as well as ours.

Recently, our teachers and educators participated in Professional Learning, with a focus on 'resilience'. Resilience develops when children experience challenges and learn to deal with them positively. Strong relationships are the foundation of children's resilience.

As I observed the children in their interactions with others, as well as adjusting to the procedures of returning to the Centre and being open to changes in our daily routines, the word 'resilience' really resonated with me.

Being able to respond, adapt and move forward with the challenges that life throws at us is all a part of building resilience, and ultimately, confident and happy children.
