Education News

Welcome to 2021 school year. We have plans for a fabulous year with learning and teaching.

Setting the climate for learning

During the first two weeks of 2021 each class has spent time 'setting the climate for learning'. This setting the climate is important for the whole class community. Teachers and students have worked on expectations and procedures that will ensure the classroom is a calm, orderly environment.

Research tells us that a Positive Classroom Climate can engage and motivate students to want to learn, to come to school feeling safe and happy and to set boundaries of expectations.

Purpose

  • To establish clear and high expectations through CSPS expected behaviours.
  • To foster an inclusive education promoting connectedness and engagement with learning.
  • To ensure our school vision and values are embedded in everyday practices and interactions.
  • To provide a safe and supportive environment that celebrates diversity and acknowledging the right of every child.
  • To ensure students have the tools and skills to develop positive and self-regulating behaviors, enhancing students' resilience, optimism, confidence, social and emotional skills.

Mathematics

To welcome our students back to the classroom in Maths, we set the climate by talking about how we encourage each other during Maths lessons:

  • "Just give it a go"
  • "Don't be afraid of mistakes"
  • "Mistakes are proof you are learning"
  • "It's ok to ask questions if you are unsure"

There were many more great ideas shared by all students. Students were engaged and had fun exercising their new Positive Maths Norms during fun Maths lessons.
