Principal Team Editorial

Merry Christmas

As the chapter closes on the school year for 2020, I would like to end by thanking and recognising our extraordinary school community. Sometimes there is a misperception that a great school is determined by what you can see, swimming pools, observatories, perfectly manicured ovals with white picket fences, students in blazers with school ties……….the list goes on. It’s not what you can see that makes a school great, it’s what you can’t see. It’s the trust between teachers and students, it’s the support from parents to teachers, it’s the sense of calm and fun for most in our community when they walk through the gate or login to a meeting on Teams. People make a school great, and we have great people! Thank you to all Wantirna College community members for their contribution that has allowed 2020 to be both a memorable year and also a successful one.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank the following staff who are finishing up with us or transferring to other schools in 2021: Cathy Ferguson, Felicity Graham-Prowse, Kylie Armstrong, Kim Green, Anthony Foon, Janine Sanderson, Tina Prapas, Tanya Mackenzie and Gayle Williams.

Return to School

Year 7 and 12 students will return to school on Thursday, January 28th.  We start with only two year levels to give the year 7 students an opporutnity to engage with the staff and year 12 students without the distraction of all the other students.

Year 7 students will start the day with a short assembly where they will meet the staff.  Parents are welcome to stay for the assembly subject to capacity of the theatre.  The Year 7 and 12 students will work together on a team exercise during the day.

Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students will start of Friday, January 29th.  This is a great way for them to ease their way back into school.  Each year level will have an assembly on the first day.

College Yearbook

The College Yearbook has arrived and looks terrific.  They will be delivered via Australia Post to those families who placed an order so keep a look out early next week.

We have a small number available for purchase for those who missed the cut off date for orders.  These are available from the General Office for $22 a copy.

Computer Leases

All computers at the end of their three year lease should have been returned to the College by now for reimaging and installation of Windows 10. Those who are going to continue with the same device will be set up for the College network.  Students will need to load the appropriate free software from the College’s intranet.

Any computers  not picked up for collection at the end of this year can be collected from the IT office once students return to school.

Please note that from the start of 2021 the computer is then the property of the student, the computer is considered a BYOD and the following apply:

  • Technician support is limited to only assisting students whilst they load the settings required to the College wireless network and internet access.
  • The College technicians cannot fix software or hardware issues for these devices.
  • There is no insurance or warranty coverage for the device.

Parents wishing to start a lease of a new Lenovo Windows device should contact the College in the new year.
