News from around the school

NEW - Indigenous Education

This week Tina Thompson, our Koori Support Worker, has been in the Prep, One and Two classrooms to teach our children our Acknowledgement of Country. The children have learnt about the importance of the fire pit to share stories, songs and traditions. The Prep children presented Acknowledgement of Country with actions at the Prep Welcome Night last Wednesday and they did a wonderful job. All the children have loved having Tina in their classrooms.

NEW - Anniversary of National Apology Day

On Friday, the 12th of February, our new Yr 6 FIRE carriers and our Indigenous families were invited to attend the Anniversary of the National Apology day breakfast in the Marian Centre. The official date was on Saturday the 13th of February. We payed our respects to all those of the Stolen generation on this day. Mr Butts shared some videos and a Yorta Yorta nation song, “Bura Fera”, sometimes called Ngarra Burra Ferra - a hymn that was translated into the Yorta Yorta language.

Thanks to all those who attended.

NEW - Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent – Lent is a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter. During Lent, Christians give up luxuries to remember when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray.

Pancakes are associated with Shrove Tuesday, the day preceding Lent, because they are a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

Students & staff onsite enjoyed preparing & cooking pancakes and choosing their own toppings.
