A Word from the Principal

School Review

I hope that all families received the Parent Survey for our school review.  This is your opportunity to feed back to us our strengths as a school and other things that you would like to see included in the school.  We do value your contributions and this information will be used during the school review process.  Thank you in advance!  Please send along your completed comments to the classroom or straight the office.

Open Night

Many thanks to the staff for organising a terrific event for our families and future families last Tuesday night.  It was terrific to see so many people attend and get involved in the activities at our school.    With the year 5/6’s starting the night with their ‘Night of the Notables’ then a parent information session and open classrooms, parents were impressed.

Congratulations to our senior school on their presentations of their projects.  The students displayed and spoke to their own personal project that took over a term to complete.  They were very impressive and showcased amazing Australians.  Our Numeracy Leader, Mrs Arya, provided information for parents and a toolkit of games to help support the numeracy learning at home.  I hope that everyone enjoyed the work and displays in the classrooms as well.  Thanks to the choir for their performance and it was a wonderful way to finish off the night.

Student Safety

This is a reminder that the staff car park at the front and back of the school is out of bounds for all pedestrians (students and parents).  There are staff leaving at different times and the driveway at the front car park is steep with low visibility due to the bend.  It is far too dangerous for pedestrians to use.  Also please be very careful when walking on the footpath near the driveway as there are cars exiting and I have noticed that a couple of parents are using it to turn around in.

PFA Mother’s Day Stall

A huge thank-you to our PFA and the work they put in to sourcing and packaging items that our mums and mother figures would love.  Thank-you also to the parents who helped with our students purchasing from the stall.  We hope that all our wonderful mothers and mother figures have a wonderful day on Sunday (and get spoilt!).

NAPLAN Exams

This week our year 3 and 5 students will complete the state-wide exams in English and Mathematics.  For the first time, our students will and have been completing the exams on line with the exception to the year 3 writing exam.

We would appreciate if our visitors and students from other grade levels could move quietly around the school to give our years 3 and 5’s the best opportunity to demonstrate the skills that they have learnt over the past few years.  While we do try to treat the exams as a regular part of the calendar day, our teachers have worked hard to familiarise students with test formats and processes.  Our expectation is always that our students try their best!

Annual General Meeting

This year our Annual General Meeting will be held just before our school council meeting on 20 May at 6.00pm.  The 2018 Annual Report will be presented to the community, which highlights our great successes for the year.  All of our community is invited.  The 2018 Annual Report will be available for our community on our website soon.  The School Council meeting will begin promptly at 6.30pm that night.

Wellbeing Program- Buddy Bear Presentation at Assembly

It was an absolute delight to witness our year 5 students presenting their prep buddies a Buddy Bear at Monday’s assembly.  Each year as a part of our whole school Wellbeing Program, students work with an older student to support them in all aspects of the school life.  As an E-Smart School which is aligned with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, the Buddy Bears are symbols of feeling and being safe at school.  All of the buddies (including the bears!) will be working together for the rest of the year.

Enrolements for 2020 - Looking for successful learners to join our team!

This is a reminder for our existing families (and please pass onto your neighbours), that enrolment forms for 2020 Foundation year students are now due.  Our highly successful Bright Beginnings transition program commences in June and we don’t want you to miss the opportunity to attend.  Please come and see Kerryn or Cindy in the office and collect an enrolment form for your pre-schooler.  Thank you.

Campers!

Good luck to our year 5 and 6 students who are off at Lady Northcote school camp next week.  My fingers are crossed for wonderful weather.

Until next time,

Ms Kylie Campbell
