The National Young Leaders Day
In Week 8 we were able to take 20 Middle School students to the Halogen National Young Leaders Day at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
The students were invited based on recommendations from teachers and Heads of House and were excellent representatives of our school. The day was an engaging experience for the boys, listening to speakers such as Leisel Jones and Brenton Ragless and networking with other school students with leadership aspirations and potential.
Post the event there was a focus for students to continually grow as leaders, and this is the case for all of our students, not only those who attended this event. Some of the areas of focus for growth include:
- Reading a range of resources associated with leadership. This is a great way to engage with some of the important skills and attitudes. The school Library is a great place to start.
- Do positive things as a team or in a group. Join school groups or other community groups. Leadership is more effective when in a group. There are a range of opportunities for this at Blackfriars.
- Do something positive yourself. Set yourself aims of positive things you can do, particularly for others.
- Listen and watch for other examples of good leadership. Students may see it at school, on TV, at a sporting club, listening to a podcast or the radio. Take note of the examples and consider how they can be used in your own path.
