St John's visit

Leyte National High School

Last week staff member, Eamonn Farrelly, completed the first week of his two week visit to Leyte National High School in Tacloban City, the Philippines.

This is a reciprocal visit following Leyte NHS’s teacher “Sir Bernie” visiting St John’s last year. The idea of the programme is to build a partnership between the two schools with the hope that we can learn from each other and hopefully develop some great things in the future.

Eamonn has shared how his experience so far has been remarkable.

"I have been overwhelmed with how wonderful the people are over here. The welcome I’ve received has been beyond anything I could have imagined. The teachers are very friendly and supportive and the students have a profound respect and admiration for teachers over here. This was particularly highlighted over the past couple of days when we celebrated World Teachers’ Day. The students showered us with gifts such as flowers, chocolates, cakes and handmade items, as well as scampering in for endless photos."

This week Eamonn will teach a few lessons and hopefully continue to build something great with their wonderful school.

Well done Eamonn!! We look forward to welcoming you back to the college on your return.

A big thank you to all the staff and students of Leyte National High School in Tacloban City in the Philippines for including St John's in your community.

Year 12 Yoga class

"The yoga experience was a new one for most students and at first glance it seemed as if it would not work out, but through the course of the activity the students started to become more ensconced in the environment that they were in and were actively taking part. The instructor was great and very engaging, the exercise she made us do really relaxed our bodies and made us connect with our minds.

Overall a very successful activity.”
