Police Cadets Camp
Police Cadets Leadership Camp
In the first week of Term 4 the Year 10 Police Cadets class went on a camp to the Rubicon Outdoor Centre near Lake Eildon. On the way up to the camp we stopped in at Marysville to visit Stevenson’s Falls. The falls were breathtaking, we all enjoyed taking in the scenery. We also dropped into the Marysville bakery to have a bite to eat. When we arrived at camp we all had to work as a team to unload the bus. We settled into our cabins' dorms and set up our beds. As it was meat-free Monday we enjoyed baked potato with delicious fillings for dinner.
During our time at Rubicon we achieved numerous goals for both the team and as individuals. On our first day at Rubicon we were supposed to go on a hike to Ned’s Peak in the Cathedral Ranges but due to feral goat culling we had to change our plans. We were given other options we could do instead; one group all came to a decision of doing the High Ropes course and Rogaining. Our day ended up being a really good day. The other group decided to go on a walk along the Rubicon River where we encounter a Red-bellied black snake as well as an amazing waterfall.
On our second day after a severe weather warning, we had to change our plans from going rafting on the Big River. The class was given all the relevant information and options. As a class we made the decision on what alternative activity to undertake. The camp leaders showed us a process on how to make a group decision with individuals having differing views. We decided to go rafting on the Goulburn River instead which was still quite fun.
The final day was Jack's birthday. We went back to the Cathedral Ranges and climbed the Jawbone Peak. It took about 4 hours, the view on top of that mountain was a wonderful sight. After that we celebrated Jack's birthday with cupcakes and a three hour ride home.
We all agree that this camp was a lot of fun and we all learnt a lot of new and interesting life skills, including teamwork, confidence and decision making. On this camp we all became a lot closer as a class.
