WHAT A BIG YEAR FOR PERFORMING ARTS!

What a big year for Performing Arts! New spaces, different curriculum, new challenges!

The rebuild will affect our ability to stage a school production this year. So, we are taking a hiatus and looking at other ways to extend our performing arts portfolio!

On Saturday 13th May the VCE Drama class were lucky enough to attend Plenty Ranges Convention Centre to see the wonderful Ilbijerri and Belvoir Theatres’ co-production of Coranderrk. This verbatim theatre performance explored the inquest into the running of the station of that name in the Yarra Valley that was very successfully worked by people of different Aboriginal nations. A change of overseer saw detrimental changes and the Aboriginal leader William Barak took their concerns and complaints in an epic overnight walk to Spring Street (18 hours!). Using transcripts of the original inquest, the 4 performers played a range of roles and presented this fascinating part of Australian history. One student response, at the end of the performance, was a long expelling of breath and the word “Wow!” Later we were also lucky enough to be able to talk about the show with performer Trevor Jamieson, who posed for a photo with us.

As we near the end of Semester 1, we get closer to unveiling this year’s amazing performers. The VCE class will kick off performances with an evening performance of their Ensemble. They are performing the 16th Miracle play, Everyman in G01 on Thursday June 8th at  6pm

All welcome!

There will be a Soiree, with the date to be announced shortly.

Then we will finish the Semester with our traditional attendance at the Northern School Districts School of Rock on Wednesday 28 June.

Please enjoy the photos of our students exploring drama and the new curriculum!
