Senior Years and Wellbeing
Dear Parents and Students,
In 2019 the College will be introducing a new Co-Curricular Awards policy. This policy is designed to recognize students for their commitment and service as well as honoring students who perform at the highest available level.
The new policy will cover all our existing sports as well as Drama, Music and Public Speaking and Debating.
Three Levels of Awards will be introduced in 2019.
1. Colours:
Awarded for performance at the highest level of competition based on performance only. This award may be presented to students in Years 10-12 or at the Principal’s Discretion.
2. Half Colours
These awards will acknowledge students who have demonstrated consistent commitment to the College’s Co-Curricular programme across a number of years. Students need to be regular members of their team/group and have shown a commitment to training and or rehearsals.
Level 1 Half Colours: have been a regular and committed member of their team or group for four years.
Level 2 Half Colours: have been a regular and committed member of their team or group for five years.
Level 3 Half Colours: have been a regular and committed member of their team or group for 6 years.
Level 1 Half Colours will be presented in House Meetings and Levels 2 and 3 will be presented in School Assemblies.
3. Principals Award
These can be awarded to students in Years 7-12 who have shown outstanding commitment to umpiring, coaching, administration support, assistance with rehearsals, organising teams or volunteering. Recognition to a Year 12 student for commitment to the activity over a period of time may also qualify for this award.
A full copy of the College’s new Co-Curricular Policy can be found on SIMON in the sports folder.
How to Have The Energy of a Four Year Old Almost Every Day
What would your life be like if you could welcome almost every day with the resilience and energy of a typical four year old?
Where is your energy level on the scale.? At one end of the scale there is the energy of the typical four-year-old. At the other end of the scale, I wonder if you have ever had to live or work with someone who was metaphorically dead, but not buried yet.
Rippa!...Waking up is a really great start!
What were the first thoughts that ran through your mind this morning as you awoke from sleep?
The first thought that will go through the typical four-year-old’s mind is, “Rippa! Another day!”
Sadly when most adults wake up, is when the whinging and complaining start.
Four-year-olds are simply glad to be awake again and this is the only ‘yummy’ reason why they need to go and make the most of their day.
You have that energy too. The only proviso is that you, like the four-year-old, must have a yummy reason why. A compelling reason to act, problem-solve, explore and learn.
Have you ever noticed how much energy you have when you have a good, yummy reason why?
Have you ever noticed how much fun and laughter four-year-olds have? Compare that with an observation of the grown-ups you know, going about their daily life.
There is no doubt that as adults, we have more pressures and areas of concern. I wonder how much extra pressure we put on ourselves unnecessarily? What decisions do we make that stretch us mentally and physically? Some decisions drain our energy and leave little time for fun.
What I think we have forgotten in our busy adult lives, is that waking up is a really good start. We have forgotten that we are not here forever; everyone dies. Life is a short.
Once you know the rules of any game it is easier to play the game. Life is no different. The number one rule is: Life is a short, unpredictable ride.
Can I encourage you to create positive ways to remind yourself daily that life is a short, unpredictable ride? It is important to maintain the sense of urgency and energy to do what you want to do with your one wild and precious life.
So what will you be thinking when you are lucky enough to wake up tomorrow?
On the day you wake up and are grateful for life and remember that waking up is a really good start, you are at your personal best. Rippa!
