Year Adviser Reports

Year 7

First of all I would like to welcome both Year 7 students and parent/carers to Henry Kendall High School. All of Year 7 have settled extremely well into Henry Kendall and the High School experience. This is a whole new and for some a scary world for them, however, they have adjusted to this new world and are already blooming. I would like to thank all the Year 7 teachers for all their effort they have put in to help Year 7 settle into the High School experience. It is truly appreciated.

Here are some organisation tips for Year 7 students

  • Write down homework and reminders in your Henry Kendall High School Year 7 Diary.
  • Place a timetable on the fridge so the family can help with your organisation
  • Organise your school bag and required equipment the night before.
  • Check your timetable to ensure you have everything you need.
  • Make a note on your timetable when you need your PE gear

Over the last week or so there have been a number of notes sent home to be signed and returned to school ASAP. These include:

  • Swimming Carnival
  • Vaccination Form (NSW Health)
  • Year 7 Camp

If you are missing any of these notes please let me know and I will hand them out again.

Over this term there are a number of important dates to put in the calendar. They include:

  • Whole School Swimming Carnival (compulsory): Monday 18 February
  • Year 7 Vaccination (Provided free by NSW Health): Tuesday 26 March
  • Year 7 Camp: Monday 8 April – Wednesday 10 April

As the Year 7 Adviser, I endeavour to get to know every single student over this term and I am looking forward to seeing their growth over the next 6 years. If there are any problems or you just need to contact me please do not hesitate to either call the school or email me at crystal.reynen@det.nsw.edu.au I am more than happy to help.

As mentioned on Orientation Day last year, I would like everyone to remember the following quote and we will taking this quote from now and till the very last day of Year 12.

“Self-belief is the secret to success”

I am looking forward to the amazing year ahead, here at Henry Kendall High School.

Ms Crystal Reynen - Year 7 Adviser

Year 9

Year 9 students have had an excellent start to 2019. They have settled into their new classes, routines, new teachers and expectations that come with this next step in their educational journeys. It has been good to see Year 9 students enjoying their choices of electives and exploring new areas to study and fully engaging in this new opportunity. I have heard many positive things about Year 9 students from teachers, which is great to be hearing already when we are only a few weeks into the school term.

We have had 4 new students join us in Year 9 and we welcome them to Henry Kendall High School. Those Year 9 students who have been very welcoming and helpful to our new students particularly impress me. They have helped make their transition to our Henry Kendall family positive.

Although early in the year I would like to take this time to remind all Year 9 students that our first round of assessment tasks will be starting very soon. It is up to the students to seek help and clarification if there is any problem with an assessment task. Your teachers will more then happy to help!

If Year 9 students do need additional help with Maths we have two options available. Firstly, Maths and Milo with is run on a Wednesday morning in Maths block. Secondly, on a Wednesday afternoon Maths Club will be running, if you are interested in this you will need to get an application from the Maths staffroom.

I look forward to another positive and rewarding year with Year 9. Keep up the good work.

Ms Cassandra McLennan - Year 9 Adviser

Year 11

Year 11 are off and running and are transitioning well into their senior course patterns. I have been impressed by the maturity of students and their attitudes toward the journey ahead.

Its important to keep the momentum going, putting good habits In place now will ensure personal success in the years to come. A reminder that students have the Library during their Tuesday afternoon study periods to access help from Student Services and to take advantage of this wonderful resource the school provides.

Senior jackets will be arriving sometime this term, no specific date has been issued by the supplier however, I will endeavour to have them out as soon as possible.

Of course if there are any questions or concerns about anything school related, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to what lies ahead for these young adults.
