Performing Arts update
It has been another busy fortnight in the Performing Arts department with recitals, workshops, musical rehearsals, all going on alongside our regular ensemble rehearsals. Ashani M and Martha S attended the Caulfield Grammar Brass Day on Monday 27 March. Students from Caulfield Grammar, Xavier College, Haileybury and Melbourne Grammar, along with Shelford students spent the afternoon rehearsing in one of two large brass ensembles, as well as listening to Lyrebird Brass. The day culminated in a concert in the Cripps Centre at Caulfield Grammar, featuring the brass ensembles, along with a performance by Lyrebird Brass.
Scholar's Concert
The Scholar's Concert was held on Wednesday 29 March. It was a fantastic evening with performances from students ranging from Year 4 to 12. I would like to congratulate all of our Music Scholars for their performances. I would also like to thank Ms Kathryn Pisani for her work rehearsing and accompanying our students on the night.
Young Voices of Melbourne
Young Voices of Melbourne ran a workshop with composer and hammered dulcimer performer Malcolm Dalglish on Thursday 30 March in the Shelford Hall. Students and families from our junior choir and Sheltones came along to watch the workshop. It was an amazing experience seeing Malcolm Dalglish and Young Voices of Melbourne in action, especially seeing and hearing Malcolm perform on the hammered dulcimer, a very rarely heard, but beautiful instrument.
Shelford has a strong connection with Young Voices of Melbourne, with several current students involved, along with many students passing through its ranks over the years. For any students interested in joining please look at their website for more information https://yvm.com.au/
