GSV Swimming and Diving

On Tuesday 21 March, over fifty students represented Shelford in the GSV Division Three Swimming and Diving Championships. The swimming competition was a very high standard this year, with lots of fast times being produced across all heats. The students should be extremely proud of their individual efforts and support of their teammates. Many of the students attained personal best performances and displayed great commitment to the team.

The Diving Team has enjoyed being able to train at Caulfield Aquatic Centre this year and there were many students who vied for a position on the team. Thank you to all of those students who came along to training and improved their dives throughout the season. The team who competed at the Championships should be congratulated on their outstanding personal and team effort, wining the overall Division 3 Cup.

GSV Weekly Sport - Term 1

With over 85 students signing up to a GSV Term 1 Weekly Sport in 2023, the year started off with a really strong focus on participation in team sport. We were really fortunate this term to have the lowest forfeit rates we have had in a while, which is a testament to the students' hard-work, commitment and dedication to not only their sport, but their coaches and teammates.

We had some wonderful Weekly Sport results throughout the season, with students being very proud of their efforts. Particularly, our Junior Indoor Cricket teams who both won their final Round 6 matches against Melbourne Girls Grammar and Firbank Grammar School. Moreover, our Tennis and Softball teams had some great wins throughout the season against some of the toughest schools in the GSV competition.

House Sport

Senior School and Junior School House Cross Country Carnival

On Tuesday 28 March we held our Senior School and Junior School House Cross Country Carnival at Elsternwick Park. The day was split into two parts, with our Senior Students competing in the morning and our Junior School students in the afternoon.

The day began with the Year 7 and 8 race, followed by the Year 9 and 10 race and the event concluded with the Year 11 and 12 race. Each of these races was very competitive at the top, with some very quick times and close finishes. While it is always pleasing to see our top runners battling it out, it is just as pleasing to see a high level of involvement in the event, with students participating in whatever way they could to complete the course.

At the conclusion of the event, we announced the year level champions, as well as the overall house winner.

Congratulations to the students below on being awarded their year level champion for 2023.

Year 7 – Mylie F, Year 8 – Ruby B, Year 9 – Hanna L, Year 10 – Sienna S, Year 11 – Abi S, Year 12 – Molly R.

The overall house winner was... Lloyd.

Once the Senior School students departed, it was time to welcome our VERY eager Junior School Students. For the first time we invited the JDC students to be involved in the event, which no doubt added to the levels of excitement in the air. We started the Junior School event with the JDC race. The plan was for them to complete 2 laps of the oval, although, with students sprinting for the first half of the lap and quickly losing momentum, we decided to call the students in after 1 lap. After that we moved on to the 9/10 year-old event, followed by the 11 year-old event and finished with the 12/13 year-old. At the conclusion of the races, we announced the individual age group winners, as well as the overall house winner.

Congratulations to the students below on being awarded their age group champions.

9 year-old – Sarah W, 10 year-old – Zara M, 11 year-old – Milla S,

12/13 year-old – Roma P.

The overall house winner was… Thomas.
