Year 8 Medieval Day

History Up Close

Monday 3 April and Tuesday 4 April

Year 8 students explored daily life in Medieval Europe through a range of medieval hands-on activities.

Below are some student reflections of Medieval Day -

“The medieval day was a great experience as we were exposed to real medieval weapons and lifestyles. My favourite session was when we were able to create an Anglo-Saxon shield wall and walk against a barrage of Norman arrows."

“My favourite part of the session was the dancing. It was a lot of fun and it sort of showed me what entertainment might look like back then."

“We learnt about knight's plate armour and some of the weapons they used. We also sparred each other with the foam swords which was the highlight of the day."

“My favourite one was the music because the dancing was fun, and I enjoyed hearing songs from long ago."

“I enjoyed making a shield wall because it was the most fun, enjoyable physical and hands on experience."

“My favourite session was the music one with Rob because I liked learning about the ways that people dealt with boredom and entertained themselves in the medieval times. I also enjoyed seeing the different exotic instruments that they used, and how different they are to the instruments we use today.”
