LHS Funk and Stage Bands
Congratulations to the LHS Band for their first 2023 public performance at the Grade 6 Information Evening earlier this term, and who are now, busy rehearsing for the ‘Mid-Year Melodies Concert' in June.
An extra thank you to those students who participated in open rehearsals during the tours of the school on the night, and to LHS Band Captain, Erin Allison who answered questions and assisted PAC staff during the evening.
Our beginning students have also commenced Stage Band rehearsals this term with Mrs Ventura and are already shaping up to be a fabulous group of musicians. Students will have pieces to practice with their Instrumental teacher and at home over the coming weeks.
Funk Band rehearsals continue on Tuesdays at lunchtime with Ms Baird. The Funk Band performance is always a highlight at our concerts and this year is shaping up to be better than ever. It is fabulous to see the collaborative work and development of leadership skills amongst the group.
Students who learn an instrument outside of school are most welcome to join our bands. Please see Ms Goode in the PAC if you’d like some more information about this.
Stage Band Captain
Congratulations Evie Nugent of Year 7 who has been selected as the CAPTAIN of our Junior Stage Band. Evie has demonstrated excellent organisation and leadership skills in her lessons this year and has been a super-keen participant of Stage Band rehearsals this term.
We’re very proud to have you as part of the team, Evie!
The Art of Jam!
On Thursday 18 May, Years 7 - 12 LHS musicians jammed with jazz group, Poet Street at 'The Art of Jam' improvisation workshop. They sounded amazing!
Fire + Rain
The North East Victorian Region (NEVR) Youth Concert will be held at Hamer Hall on Monday May 29, at 7pm.
We are very proud of our students Erin Allison (oboe), Tristan Dent (trumpet) and Cailie Rigg (flute) who are joining students from over 300 Victorian government schools to perform at this wonderful event.

Battle of the Bands
Battle of the Bands is back in 2023! Students of all musical abilities are encouraged to participate with the following guidelines:
- Bands must have a minimum of 3 members
- Any instrumentation is welcome including vocal groups with backing tracks
- Vocal groups must include original choreography
- A different song must be performed at each stage of the competition
Registration and demo video must be submitted via this link by, Friday 26 May.
Farewell Frank
Our guitar teacher, Frank Deak has accepted a classroom music teaching position in another school, and is unable to continue teaching in our Instrumental Program.
We thank Frank for all he has contributed to music here at LHS and wish him well in his new job.
We are currently interviewing prospective guitar teachers to fill the position and will let families know once this process is complete.
