Year 11 Student Achievement

Amazing start from our Year 11 students this year, they are throwing themselves into all activities and loving having Wednesday Period 5 off, this ensures they can keep up all their extra-curricular activities as well.  Just a few examples of our amazing students:

Amy Masters competing in the Track Cycling Championships and the Oceania Track Championships in Brisbane.

Eshani has been an active volunteer with the FREEZA Flying Pigs Events Committee of the Whitehorse council.  She has been an event organizer for the last one and a half years.  FREEZA is a Victorian State government initiative to organise drug, smoke and alcohol-free events for ages 15-25 years and provides performance opportunities for local musicians and young artists.

Working very closely with the Whitehorse Youth Representative Committee, Eshani, as part of the events team, has got her training on cultural awareness, youth representation, youth advocacy and rights from the council.

Putting her learning to task, she has been organising regular community events, including monthly music showcases at Box Hill Central.  She was also part of a team organising a youth stage, food trucks and stalls at the Whitehorse Spring Festival 2022.  She is currently organising an All Ages Tour to be held in Whitehorse Council Hall in May 2023.

Her dedication to the volunteer role is commendable as she is tagged as 'dependable' and one who is supportive of her teammates.  She is enthusiastic about attending the bi-weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings, collaborating with fellow team members and planning, organising, and marketing the event from start to finish.

Congratulations to  James Coleman for being selected in the U18 Men’s Victorian Metro Team.  This months announcement of the state teams from Basketball Victoria followed two months of try-outs, camps and tournaments from which the final ten were selected.

James has played with the Whitehorse Mustangs since 2013 when he started playing with friends from school in an Under 8 team. Some of the boys from that original team are still playing together today for the Mustangs in Under 18s.  Nowadays, if James is not on the court playing you are likely to find him in the backyard practicing his basketball.  Known as a great shooter, that skill has come from many hours of practice and dedication from James.

The U18 Victorian Metro team will now continue to train up until Easter when the team will compete in the U18 Australian Championships in Brendale, Queensland against other state teams. We wish James the best of luck in the tournament.
