Welcome to Term Two!

The Year One students have had an excellent start to the term and have settled back in with ease. We have been working hard to use our whole body listening skills and are listening carefully to instructions during learning time. Over the last three weeks, we have been creating new narratives during writing, learning about time in maths and push/pull forces in Inquiry.

Here are some pictures of us working hard over the last three weeks!

Inquiry- Push and Pull Forces

This term in Inquiry students will be learning about Forces. Students are investigating different types of push and pull forces and how to use forces to create movement. Students will be exploring the characteristics and properties of materials and components. They are completing a range of hands-on activities and experiments to see different forces being used.

Later in the term, students will apply their knowledge to design and build their own creation out of materials to complete a challenge. The challenge will be to use a force to move a hollow chocolate egg without breaking it. The students are thoroughly enjoying all the activities so far.

We want to thank all of you for continuing to bring in any cardboard boxes, milk cartons and other recyclable items to support our inquiry topic!

Mother's Day/Special Persons Afternoon

On Thursday the 11th of May, Upwey South Primary School hosted the annual Mother's Day afternoon. Here are some pictures from our wonderful afternoon full of fun and exciting activities.

Take Home Readers

Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 2-3 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

If you would like to read an extra book for the week, your child may login to the MultiLit eLibrary using an electronic device. The eLibrary uses a browser-based platform, so books can be read on desktop computers or mobile devices (including smartphones and tablets). You will find the link to this website and your child’s login details at the front of their reading diary. Alternatively, your child may choose to read a ‘good fit’ book of their choice instead.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Friday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
