What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few lessons, the Foundation Students have participated in a two-week Auskick clinic which was run by an external accredited AFL coach. The purpose of this program was to expose the students to the game of AFL, learned the fundamental skills e.g. kicking, marking and handballing and build on their ability to cooperate positively in a team.

The students then moved on commencing their unit of overarm throwing and learning the strongman/girl technique. The students practised these new techniques through individual practise, small team activities. These activities aimed to build confidence in their overarm throwing ability and enhance their accuracy.

Year One/Two:

Over the past few lessons, the level 1 students have commenced their unit on throwing overarm. They revisited the the strongman/girl technique and practised this both individually and with a partner. Their learning was then extended to apply the techniques to small-scale activities which included Indigenous throwing games.

Over the past few weeks, the Level 2 students have begun their Athletics units. The students were exposed to some of the field events such as Long Jump, High Jump, Discus and Shot Put. During these sessions students had multiple attempts at either jumping or throwing to grow their level of confidence and build their knowledge around correct technique(s). One of the purposes of these lessons was to call upon the student's fine and gross motor skills to allow them to complete the set activity.

Year Three/Four:

Over the last three weeks our Level 3 & 4 students have commenced their athletics unit with the predominate focus being on the field events. The students participated in the below sporting events. The purpose of this was to both prepare students for the district athletics carnival in Term Three and to expose students to the correct techniques and methods used to complete each event.

  • Long Jump
  • High Jump
  • Discus

Year Five/Six:

Over the last three weeks our Level 5 & 5 students have commenced their athletics unit with the predominate focus being on the field events. The students participated in the below sporting events. The purpose of this was to both prepare students for the district athletics carnival in Term Three and to expose students to the correct techniques and methods used to complete each event.

  • Long Jump
  • High Jump
  • Discus

Mountain Bike Elective

Our select 3-6 students had their 2nd Mountain Bike session. During this session they continued to build their knowledge on how to undertake a bike check and ensure their helmet is fitted safely. Once the students completed this activity, they moved into practising some bike skills. The students learnt how to execute both the neutral and ready position while riding through an designated course. A massive shout out to Simon Carlie for volunteering his time to work with the students and pass on his knowledge and expertise about mountain biking.

Region Tennis

On Friday 5th May both Jake Walker and Jade McCulloch represented our schools at the regional tennis championships. To advance to this stage is an amazing achievement in itself. The talent on display at this stage was immense. We are super proud of both students and their efforts in making through to this level.
