WELCOME TO TERM TWO
We would like to send a big, warm welcome back to our students and their families. It has been great to see so much positive energy within the classes and to see the delight on the children's faces throughout the day. Whilst this is a relatively short term, it is still jam packed full of activities, special days and learning. We would also like to take the opportunity to welcome our new students who will be starting this term. Please make them feel welcome.
INQUIRY IN YEAR 3/4
CODING
This term, our students are learning about coding. We started the term by using basic code to instruct the Bee Bots to follow inputted directions and instructions. Students had the challenge of writing out code for the Bee Bot to travel from one destination to another. They then entered this code on the Bee Bot and checked whether their coding was accurate or not.
After this initial activity with the Bee Bots, students were given some challenges to choose from. These included dance off, mirror and draw a circle.
Our students are now working on learning how to code using the Scratch platform. Students are using block code to create all sort of animations and simple games. This type of coding is a lot of fun as students are able to add movement, sounds, loops etc to their code and see the results on the screen.
CELEBRATING OUR MUMS AND SPECIAL PEOPLE
On Thursday, we enjoyed welcoming our mums and special people to a fun afternoon at school. Students were able to enjoy spending time with their guest/s and participate in a range of wonderful activities spread throughout the school. Some activities included massages, making cards and a photo booth. We would like to wish all our mums a very happy Mother's Day.
STUDENT ELECTIVES
We have now started the most anticipated, student electives. Students had a wonderful first session in their multi-age groups. Some activities include knitting, AusLan, paleontology, skateboarding, Kids in the Kinder and cooking.
HOMEWORK
The homework in the Year 3/4 level generally consists of daily reading, learning times tables and learning specified spelling words.
READING
We recommend that your child reads daily and records their reading into their diary. This should include the book title, author and pages read. Ideally, the child should be reading to a parent if possible as this helps with fluency, expression and comprehension.
SPELLING
When students complete progress monitioring or cumulative review spelling assessments, any words that students had trouble with, are then used as spelling words. These words will be written into your child's diary. We encourage students to practice spelling these words daily as homework.
TIMES TABLES
Students have now completed a times table assessment to check their understanding and knowledge. Students have been instructed to start learning a particular set of times tables. Your child should be learning these out of order and be able to have an automatic response when the question is asked of them. Once they are confident in knowing the set of times tables, your child will then let their teacher know they are ready to be tested. If they are able to show confidence in recalling the set of tables, they will then receive their next set of times tables to learn.
DIARIES
Please note that it is expected that your child has their diary at school every day.
