YR 9: Immersion Day

Over the past month the Year 9 cohort has been undertaking their Immersion Days at St Paul’s Anglican Church and The Ian Potter Centre. The students spent half a day in the city together, having tours throughout the buildings. The topic of the day was “From Colony to City” which connects to their Religion topic in Term 2 on the Catholic Church in Early Melbourne. Students got to hear all about the history of St Paul’s construction, and how it changed and supported the community from its consecration until now. The Ian Potter Centre took the students through the history of Melbourne through the use of artworks created at the time, and with the tour guide being a past Academy teacher, Mr David Menzies, we had the added bonus of tying in the history of the Mercy Sisters being key players in building Melbourne’s story. Days like this are a great opportunity for the students to experience the city, and gain an appreciation for Religion in a wide range of contexts.
