Dear Members of the Academy Community,
Welcome back to Term 2 – a short but very busy term! There is much to look forward to this term with a number of key events including the College Musical, Legally Blonde Jr. which will be a joint venture with Simonds College; our annual Mothers’ Day Mass next Wednesday evening which is a celebration of Motherhood in all its forms and, for the first time in a number of years, the Year 10 Community Action week which will take place at the end of term. Just as a reminder, if you have not as yet bought your tickets for the Musical, please do so as soon as possible as tickets are selling fast.
In our last newsletter I included the reflection on prayer given by Ms Hannah Hale, Religious Education Learning Leader, at the end of Term 1 whole school Assembly. There were two magnificent speeches given at that Assembly one by Ms Hannah Hale and one delivered by Ms Tassone, another of our Staff members . Thus, in this week’s Newsletter, I share with you the words of Ms Tassone who has asked for a year’s leave from her teaching at the Academy to enable her to join a volunteer teaching program in India. As she said at the Assembly – “I was talking the talk but realized I have to walk the walk”.
Please take the time to ponder this powerful speech and please keep Fiona in your prayers as she embarks on the exciting but daunting challenge she has set for herself. We look forward to her sharing her learnings when she rejoins us in term 4.

Mothers’ Day
We pray for young mothers,
who give life and count toes and tend to our every need;
may they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy.
We pray for our own mothers
who have nurtured and cared for us;
may they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways.
We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty,
or conflict;
may they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes away every tear.
We pray for women who are not mothers
but still love and shape us with motherly
care and compassion.
We remember mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us, but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Amen.
