2022 Visual Arts Exhibition
On the evening of Monday 17th October, the opening night of GEC’s annual Visual Arts Exhibition took place in the PAC. A huge array of artworks were on display - from Year 7 students extending their artistic skills through set tasks, up to large-scale, mixed-media VCE projects. Works from both the Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design disciplines were exhibited, demonstrating a range of skills and techniques in practice by the students.
The night kicked off with the opening of the exhibition by the Principal, Sheereen Kindler and the presentation of awards from Deans Arts. Kerry Williams and Lisa Clarke, from Deans Arts, presented vouchers and certificates to students who had demonstrated commitment and excellence in the Visual Arts. The recipients were:
Year 10 Visual Arts – Akino Gudan
Unit 1/2 Art – Grace Williams
Unit 3/4 Art – Naomi Wong
Year 10 Visual Communication Design – Natalie Duieb
Unit 1/2 Visual Communication Design – Nicole Agpoon
Unit 3/4 Visual Communication Design – Kael Lok
The event continued with the opportunity for students to show their work to friends and family.
After a successful opening night, the exhibition stayed open over the week, allowing students and visitors to experience the talent and creativity on display. A visitors’ book was provided, with many people expressing their opinions on the exhibition. Many expressed pride in the work of their friends and family, as well as appreciation - “amazing talent”, “beautiful artworks”, “really fantastic” and “pure dedication and motivation from the staff & students” were among the thoughts expressed by parents, teachers and students.
Overall, the 2022 Visual Arts exhibition was a tremendous success, with large numbers of visitors experiencing the artistic talent of our students. Congratulations to the award winners, and to all the students who had their work exhibited. We can’t wait to see what you create next year.

Bird Mobile
Students applied their knowledge of Design Elements and Principles when creating their bird mobile. They experimented with Illustrator digitally or used manual skills to create a pattern to place on a bird mobile template. This work was produced on card, cut out and made into a mobile.
Architectural Studio Design
Year 9 students had to design a studio for “Kids Under Cover” that showed its exterior within an environment. They applied architectural drawing conventions to both manual and digital drawings. The studio had to suit a sixteen-year-old and was to be no larger than 18 square metres. The digital work was created using SketchUp for Schools.
