Year 7 Almost Done and Dusted…
Congratulations to our Year 7 students who have made it through their first year of secondary school extremely successfully. For some it has taken a lot of adjustment and fine tuning to get to the end of the year but for the majority they have soared, taking full advantage of the many opportunities on offer at GEC. It has been an absolute pleasure supporting the Class of 2027 and we wish them the very best of luck with their future studies and endeavours. We will be keen to follow their progress in the years to come and celebrate their successes with them. To the parents, supporting young people is a partnership between you and the school and we cannot thank you enough for the time and support you have given us in helping to support your child at school. We have laughed, cried, become frustrated together, and more importantly felt that sense of pride when students have shown what they are truly capable of. Thank you to you all.
We would like to remind students and families that, whilst it has been challenging for many students that we have not had a canteen, students need to have enough food at school to get them through the day. We are finding many students hungry at lunchtime because they have eaten their lunch at recess. Organising lunch and recess meals and snacks is key to being nourished throughout the day and not going without, so that students are alert and able to keep up the pace in class.
The last day of Year 7 classes will be Friday 25th November. On Monday 28th November Year 7 students will be starting Year 8 classes and this is their transition.
Lastly, it has been fantastic to see current Year 7 students volunteering to assist in the transition program for Grade 6 students attending GEC next year. We are looking for volunteers from each team to act as guides for the new Year 7 teams so please come forth and be a leader on the day.
Thank you and signing off as Year 7 Coordinators of 2022.

Year 8 News
As students near the end of Year 8 there is a sense of trepidation and excitement for the challenges and opportunities of Year 9. Transition will provide students with a taste of what it is like to be the new leaders of the Junior School.
During our last assembly, we were able to award students through our Nominate a Legend initiative. This provided Year 8 students with the chance to put forward a peer who has gone above and beyond academic expectations. We received approximately 100 nominations and will distribute them all to their recipients so they can feel recognised for their efforts.
We are also preparing for a well-deserved Year 8 BBQ Day to recognise the effort of all learners in the Year Level.

Year 9 News
As we approach the final few weeks of the 2022 academic year, we have noticed the great change that has taken place amongst the Year 9 cohort over the year; we are pleased that the Year 9s have shown great resilience and are developing into young and responsible adults. They have all shown great determination and participation in all things competitive, especially their extracurricular activities.
As a result of having to cancel the Year 9 camp, during the transition period we will offer some activities. Further details will be posted.
Transition commences in week 9 and the Year 9 students will commence their Year 10 classes. This transition will conclude on 13/12/22. Any further updates will be notified to students on their google classroom by the year level coordinator. Transition is a compulsory component of the students’ curriculum. Transition serves to equip students with work that they need to be familiar with and be prepared for the following year, bearing in mind the work done is not revision but covers new content.
Students in 9B have exams in English, Maths, Science and Humanities. These one-hour exams are scheduled in week 8 on 21/11/22 and 22/11/22. The timetable has been posted on Year 9 2022 google classroom.
We are proud of all the amazing work students have been doing by seizing opportunities and participating in extracurricular in addition to your daily schoolwork. We would like to see more students involved in extracurricular activities - sports, chess club, robotics club, art club, enterprising and sewing club etc. So please encourage your child to read the daily student bulletin and take any opportunity that might seem interesting. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any competition or lunch time clubs, please feel free to contact relevant teachers or year level coordinators as per information on our student weekly bulletin.
Thank you to all families for their continued support. Please do not hesitate to email us if there are any questions or concerns at any time.
