Four seasons in one day – perfect for planting corn

With the rain-sun-rain-sun weather of late planning and running Garden Club over the last 6 months has been somewhat challenging (to say the least!).

At the 11th hour we were able to run Garden Club this week. I was aptly discussing what the saying “Four seasons in one day“ means with the students, when it started to rain, again. Then an announcement came over the loud speakers, “Wet day timetable. Back to class”.

Ten minutes later the rain stopped. Another announcement. And our Garden Club kids were back. 😊

Last week we managed to clear some beds for potatoes and corn. This week we had just enough time to scratch some dried-out corn kernels (seeds) off some old cobs. We then estimated how many seeds were on each cob, how many we’re collected all together and how many we should plant into our 1 x 3m garden bed. We then threw in a few extra for good luck and the kids got some seeds to take home. Then it started to rain again.
