Focus on Learning

Kindergarten

Kindergarten are keen gardeners!

Over the term Kindergarten students have been responsible for watering and looking after the garden. During Week 1, Kindergarten planted Cucumber, Tomato, Lettuce and Strawberry seeds. Each day the children would responsibly water their garden and their grass heads using watering cans and spray bottles. After a couple of weeks we started to see seedlings popping through the soil. Over the last week we have been able to taste test some of our produce. We have enjoyed the taste of our lettuce and we hope that we will be able to create some recipes using some of our other school grown produce.

Kindergarten and St Joseph's were very lucky to receive a donation of 1000 worms from Lyncin Wright and his family. With this initiative Kindergarten started to collect fruit scraps from all classes after 'sip & crunch' time. We had to research the foods that worms liked and the foods that worms couldn't have; such as citrus peels.  We have started to collect the worm juices and water them down to water our garden.

Our grassheads have also grown quite crazy hair over the term. We have had so much fun pretending that we are hairdressers and giving them a little hair cut.

Literacy

During our writing lessons this term we have been collecting information about different animals to help us write information reports. We have researched about dogs, lions, elephants and monkeys. The information that we have been collecting about each animal is their; appearance, diet, habitat and other interesting facts. This gives us enough information to independently write our own Information Reports.

Mathematics

This week we have been focusing on Australian coins and notes. This has been an interesting unit, learning about money and the value of each coin and note.
