Student Achievements

Tasmanian Middle School Ethics Olympiad

On Tuesday 8 November, five students, two from Year Nine and three from Year Eight,  competed in the Tasmanian Middle School Ethics Olympiad.  In preparation for this event, the students studied eight ethical scenarios which included the use of nuclear power, pay parity for Paralympians, citizen status at birth and the ethics of sharing Netflix accounts.  The capacity of these students to eloquently articulate thoughts and ideas regarding matters of profound importance was impressive.

The students engaged, via Zoom, with students from other schools and Colleges around the State, including: The Friends’ School, St Michael’s Collegiate, St Patrick’s College, St Brendan-Shaw College and The Hutchins School.  Through their hard work, the students placed second in the State and will now compete in the International Middle School Ethics Olympiad in February, 2023. Congratulations to Willa Johnson, Abigail Adams, Laura Collinson, Tibby Herzfeld and Charlotte Tribolet for demonstrating that public discourse is alive and flourishing amongst a number of our students.

Congratulations to Year 10 student Claudia Pollard on being awarded the prestigious 'Green Eagle Award', presented by Air Force Group Captain Kelly.

The National Fieldcraft Competition is held annually and hosted by the wing that has won the previous year. Seven cadets from each state are selected to compete completely out field for 6 days.

There are two nationally recognised awards that can be won: to win the competition as a state, or the only individual award, the Green Eagle Award which is presented to the cadet who displays leadership exceeding rank or experience. As this award is not compulsory per year, a cadet must be consistently noticed and/or nominated by several members of the Australian Air Force Cadets around Australia - at least 5 states. This award is for a cadet who shows qualities consistent with the AAFC values - Service, Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Excellence.
