What is happening in the Art Room....
Foundation students used their creativity and problem solving skills in the Art room over the last two weeks. They had access to boxes of diverse shapes and sizes, straws, tape, glue and cardboard and had to make an animal using available resources.
Adapting swiftly to the notion that in art things don't always have to look the way they look in reality, for example heads don't have to be round, students got creative. They measured and swapped boxes and experimented with the best way to attach materials, using tape and or a glue stick. The resulting 'box creatures' are creative and resourceful.
Continuing the Eric Carl inspired activity, students in Grade 1 and 2 got plenty of practise using their fine motor skills, cutting and pasting paper, as they completed their animal collages.
Following last weeks' brainstorm and design of clay creatures, Grade 3 and 4 students put their skills into practise. Using clay, they created unique clay creatures and will paint their creations next week, when they have dried. Upon reflection students noted "Working with clay is fun but it is harder than it seems."
Grade 5 and 6 students are working on a design/branding activity, which ties in with their Term 4 topic. They discussed how use of colours and shapes can increase brand recognition and how big brands might cooperate with artists to increase their market share. Each student chose a shoe template to design and colour according to the brand of the snack or sweet wrapper they have brought in.
